Bluehost review

In this Bluehost review, we are gonna show you what this hosting platform has to offer and how can it be beneficial or not for your business. Bluehost is a hosting company created by Matt Heaton and Danny Ashworth in Provo, Utah. They have a staff of 750 people working around the clock.

A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to make their website accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server owned or leased for use by clients, as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center. Web hosts can also provide data center space and connectivity to the Internet for other servers located in their data center, called colocation.

There are several types of hosting.

We have the Virtual Private Server (VPS):

it divides server resources into virtual servers, where resources can be allocated in a way that does not directly reflect the underlying hardware. VPS will often be allocated resources based on one server to many VPSs relationships, however, virtualization may be done for several reasons, including the ability to move a VPS container between servers. The users may have root access to their own virtual space. Customers are sometimes responsible for patching and maintaining the server (unmanaged server) or the VPS provider may provide server admin tasks for the customer (managed server).

Also the dedicated server:

The user gets his or her Web server and gains full control over it (the user has root access for Linux/administrator access for Windows); however, the user typically does not own the server. One type of dedicated hosting is self-managed or unmanaged. This is usually the least expensive for dedicated plans. The user has full administrative access to the server, which means the client is responsible for the security and maintenance of his dedicated server.

The shared hosting:

This means that one’s website is placed on the same server as many other sites, ranging from a few sites to hundreds of websites. Typically, all domains may share a common pool of server resources, such as RAM and the CPU. The features available with this type of service can be quite basic and not flexible in terms of software and updates. You can read more about all the complexity of hosting here.

Bluehost offers these 3 services but for today we are only reviewing the share hosting part of Bluehost.

How does Bluehost work?

First of all, you need to choose a plan. Check the picture below for the 3 different plans.

Bluehost review

once you chose your plan, you will get this screen (photo is below), where you can choose to set up a new domain from Bluehost or use a domain you own. If it is a new domain the system will check and see if the domain you want is available or not. Once you have the green light you can proceed to fill your personal information.

Bluehost review

As much as the price may seem cheap to you, keep in mind that you are going to pay on an annual basis. meaning that a monthly payment is not accepted, you are going to pay for at least 12 months.

The total cost can easily climb when you add their additional package that can be essential for your business. Here is my total cost for the first year of hosting.

What I personally like about their billing method is the commitment that it helps me take. When I pay a hosting service for a whole year, I commit to building my business for a big enough period of time for my business to grow. It gives me also a certain peace of mind knowing that I do not have to worry about hosting for a while.

Note: the starter price of $3.95 runs only for the first year, in the second year you will pay the full amount of $7.99

Pros and cons of Bluehost.

1. Pros

– Fast loading time:

A report from Google found that the vast majority of mobile websites are way too slow.
That’s a problem for two major reasons. Google’s mobile-first index can either elevate or hide your site in user searches based on its loading speeds. Studies show that slow websites almost always translate into lower sales. So Bluehost makes sure that your loading time is fast to help you with the SEO part of your business. Search engines will be prompt to show your website if it is loading fast.

– WordPress:

Bluehostworks with WordPress. They are even the number one recommended platform when you are signing up for a WordPress website. Because of using WordPress, you can easily integrate other apps and plugins. You can create a blog, an e-commerce website, a membership website, or just a simple page website for your local business.

Also, Bluehost will even include access to a Content Delivery Network (CDN). These host your images and large files, taking that work off your servers, to deliver them faster to users around the world and keep your site quick at the same time. You will not need to purchase a CDN plugin to place on your website. It is a huge plus.

– The security features:

Bluehost provides a lot of good security options by default, including the free SSL certificate for each plan (from basic to pro).

All plans also include a domain privacy feature that will help keep the personal information you used to sign up with private. This prevents hackers from finding and using these personal details in phishing schemes to trick you into handing over sensitive information.

SiteLock is included to help prevent malware attacks, which are unfortunately fairly common on WordPress sites. CodeGuard is another form for protection, which also provides daily backups so you can roll back previous versions of a site if it does get hacked.

Postini, from Google, is the final security tool worth using. It provides spam protection for your email, so anything suspicious is prevented from getting in your inbox.

Some features are available for all and others you may have to pay.

– They have an attractively low price:

Bluehost offers an unbeatable cheap price. You will not get anything cheaper than $3.95, again remember you are paying on an annual basis, so, do the maths.

– The 24/7 support:

The tech-support is available 4/7 for anyone wherever you are. You may get a live chat or email exchange to help you solve your problem. This is a major tool because people using Bluehost are scattered in the world and some are beginners with no knowledge of building a website. Finding support may be on live chat or phone can be very reassuring and helpful to keep them in business.

– Affiliate program:

Bluehost has a strong affiliate program that brings in a lot of new users every month.

2. Cons.

– The pricing can be confusing:

I know that I just said that Bluehost had the cheapest price in the market but their pricing can be a little bit confusing. If you do not pay attention, you will not realize that it is billed yearly and it is not mentioned anywhere that the second payment will be the full $7.99.

So, If you do not pay attention you can pay way more than you thought. But I guess that is why they have a 30 days money back option.

– Less than 30 days back-up:

This can be very frustrating sometimes but you will have to learn how to get around it. The free backup is only available for less than 30 days. If you want to be safe, you will have to learn how to do it manually from your WordPress dashboard or use a plugin in your c-panel.

– Too many upsell:

I know this is one of the best ways for a company to maximize its revenue but it is still annoying to customers. You realize that some key features could have been included in the hosting fee but they are not and you need to purchase them separately.

Bluehost vs Wealthy affiliate.

Now we already had a review of wealthy affiliate. And today we are comparing the two because wealthy affiliate also offers a shared hosting service. Every member of wealthy affiliate has a website or more and they are all hosted in wealthy affiliates. And both have an affiliate marketing program.

Here is what you are getting when you host your website in wealthy affiliate.

– Choose your plan:

The first thing is to choose if you would like free hosting or paid hosting. You can get the free hosting here, you do not need to be a part of the wealthy affiliate community for that. You will enjoy a free WordPress website that you can rank into the search engines and enjoy a successful business.

For the paid website, you will have to join the wealthy affiliatecommunity. The cost is $49 monthly, and you will enjoy up to 10  websites. You can use free domain websites or paid domain websites, whatever the choice you make the maximum will be 10 websites.

– Website essentials:

Your website will come with some essential features that you need to run your website. Check the images below.Bluehost review

As you can see your site speed is taken care of, your personal details are safe from hackers and your website is protected from spams. Those are really the basics you need to start safely building your website.

What is different between the two?

– Hosting:

Both offers shared hosting. Bluehost has VPS and the dedicated server as we saw at the beginning, it is a good plus for those who would like a better performing website.

The hosting comes with the basics of website security, personal data safety, and anti-spam. For more, you will have to buy plugins. When I come to hosting the two platforms offer the same quality services to ensure that their clients have enough to start a successful website.

Note that for the basic Bluehost plan, you only have access to create one website but with wealthy affiliate, you can create up to ten websites. It is a good offer for those who want to create a steady online business. For you to get more than 1 website with Bluehost, you may need to sign up for the unlimited offer at a minimum of $179.

– The pricing:

Bluehost only offers a yearly plan and the cheapest one can be $155. But Wealthy affiliate offers a monthly plan for the entire program (hosting, training, and coaching) at $49.

It is clear that for everything you get with wealthy affiliate the price is fair and beginner-friendly.

– Affiliate marketing:

The two platforms offer an affiliate program. For every one you invite into the program, you are entitled to get a commission.

For Bluehost, the basic commission is $65. So for anyone who signs up paying $155, you get $65, which is more than 50%. And with wealthy affiliate for everyone who signs up with $49, you have a commission of $22 every month as long as that individual keeps his/her membership.

The advantage is very clear here, with Bluehost, you only get one payment per year of $65 and with wealthy affiliate, it ca go up to $264 for a year. That is a pretty impressive difference.

1. Can you change a plan anytime with Bluehost?

Yes, it is very possible and quite easy to do. From the user dashboard, you can apply and pay for it. But you have to know that doing that will give you access to any discounted offer unless it is an offer that expressly says it.

So, it will be better for you to make sure that you have opted for the right plan for your business.

2. Who is Bluehost for?

It is for anyone who would like to create a website. You do not need to be a skilled technician to build a website with WordPress. But I admit that it can be overwhelming at the beginning, that is why considering to build your website with wealthy affiliate is a good thing. You will still use WordPress, but you will have tons of training to help you create your website, build an affiliate business an more.

3. Is WordPress free with Bluehost?

Yes, WordPress is free. The only thing you are paying is the hosting service. Bluehost will use their servers to host your website and keep it safe. There is no platform that will tax you for using WordPress, it is a free platform that helps in creating websites.

4. Is Bluehost available worldwide?

Yes, it is. You can sign up and enjoy their services from anywhere in the world. Their servers are not everywhere in the world but they have them in different regions in the world. So they will host your website to the closest servers available.

5. Do I own my domain name with Bluehost?

Yes, the domain name is totally yours. And you are free to take it if you wish to change to another hosting company. And everything or content that you have created on your website is yours. There is nothing that you have on your website that is own by Bluehost.

Bluehost is a good hosting company. They will provide you with quality services to help you create a secure website to start your online business and more. They are the number one recommendation of WordPress. Whenever you want to create a website with WordPress they will advise you to sign up with Bluehost. But they are not the best in the market. We have just seen that wealthy affiliate offers similar services at a better price when you take into consideration everything else you can get within wealthy affiliate.

if you are a beginner and you would like to start your online business, you may need to consider hosting your website with wealthy affiliate. Because you will get the guidance you need to help you work efficiently toward success.

It is indeed great and will help alot in my website, nevertheless I would love to give it a trial, but I don’t know if there is free days trials to access their services before signing up ?.

    • no, there is no free trial for Bluehost, but you can try the 7days trial with wealthy affiliate it will give you access to create a WordPress website for free, even with a free domain name.

  2. Hello there! this is an amazing review you have got here. No matter how beneficial any site can be, there is no way I will prefer it to wealthy affiliate because through that platform, I didn’t experience difficulty like other newbie in opening and running a website as all the trainings I needed was given my WA.

  3. Well bluehost looks good. I mean as opposed to the many other online platforms that I have seen. One thing that strikes me the most about this one is it’s availability worldwide. I think that’s a very good thing and many people would have access to it as well. They also have some very eye-catching features too. I’ll like to try it out.

    • Yes. the features are great. Give it a try you won’t regret it!

  4. Thank you for sharing this detailed review of BlueHost. When it comes to hosting a website, one hosting service provider that plays in the mind of many persons is BlueHost. BlueHost has bee know for affordability, reliability, fast speed and very high up time. However, it is not enough to own a website. Wealthy affiliate will help bring my website alive through the trainings and support it provides.

    • Exactly, that is the proper conclusion I got.
